1. Configuring your Modem

• 1.01 Click the "Start" button and select "Settings"..."Control Panel".
• 1.02 Double-Click on the "Modems" icon.
• 1.03 If you see a modem listed, stop! Go immediately to step 2

• 1.04 If you don't see a modem listed, you should see this screen:

• 1.05 Click "Next" to begin the auto-detection of your modem.
• 1.06 If it detects your modem, proceed to step 2.
• 1.07 If it doesn't find your modem, you must add it manually.

• 1.08  Select your modem from the list, then click "Next". (If your modem is not on the list then see your modem instruction manual for instructions on how to add it.  Most likely you have to put in the disk that came with your modem and then click on "Have Disk".)

• 1.09 Select which com port the modem is connected to, then choose "Next".  (See your modem instruction manual for more information.)

• 1.10 Now Windows ME adds your modem to the system. Select "Finish" when this is done. Next we have to change some modem properties.

2. Configuring Dial-Up Networking.

• 2.01 Click on "Start" then select "Settings", and "Dial-up Networking".

• 2.02 Double click on "Make New Connection".

• 2.03 Enter "ISOT" for the name of the computer you are dialing.

• 2.04 In the "Select a device:" click on the drop arrow and select the modem you will be using to dial up to the school with.  (You will probably have only one.)

• 2.05 Click "Next"

• 2.06 Enter your local ISOT dialup number  in the "Telephone number" field.  For Killeen: 634-2922 or 628-1238, and for Temple: 298-0418

• 2.07 Click "Next"

• 2.08 Click "Finish"

• 2.09 Right click on the ISOT icon and select "Create Shortcut".

• 2.10 Click on "Yes" to create a shortcut on your desktop.

• 2.11 Right click on the ISOT icon and select "Properties".

• 2.12 Select the "Networking" tab.

• 2.13 Your settings should appear like this.  If they do not then make the necessary changes.

• 2.14 Click "OK" twice.

• Finally we are ready to dial the campus. From now on you won't have to do the preceding steps, they are one-time-only set up requirements.

3. Dialing the ISOT.

• 3.01 Double click on the "Shortcut to ISOT" icon on your desktop.

• 3.02 Enter just your username in the username field.  User name is all in lower cases with no spaces in between.  Your user name should be printed on your invoice.
• 3.03 Type in your password that was assigned to you.
• 3.04 If you want to automatically dial and connect whenever you double click on the "Shortcut to ISOT" icon then check "Save password" and "Connect automatically".
• 3.05 Enter your local access number (see 2.06) if needed.
• 3.06 Click "Connect".
• 3.07 You should hear the modem dial and connect.
• 3.08 If there are no errors while connecting the login box will drop down into the start menu.
• 3.09 If you are prompted to re-enter your password, make sure the caps lock key is off and make sure you entered the correct username, password, and phone number.
• 3.10 Now the TCP/IP connection will be finalized between your computer and the Internet. At this point you are now connected to the internet via ISOT.  If you wish to browse the internet then open a internet browser such as Internet Explorer or Netscape.
