If you have FreePPP and wish to use it, then follow the instructions below. If you do not have FreePPP and wish to use it, you can download it HERE or goto C|Net and download the latest version by type in FreePPP in the search box. Latest version of FreePPP is version 2.6, which can be downloaded locally from ISOT (Compressed v. 2.6 | Ready-to-install v.2.6).

The assumptions that we make are as follows:

  • Your MAC at a minimum must have a 68020 processor or a Power Macintosh
    and System 7.0 or higher, and at least 8 MB of ram.
  • You did not obtain our automated ISOT MAC Configurator software.
  • Your Mac have at least around 30 MB of hard drive space for a full internet installation.
  • You have stuff-it expander (or download from HERE) and have minimum know-how on working with MAC and get this software unpacked & installed.

If you have an older Macintosh system, you may still be able to connect, however, you will need to purchase Internet in a Box from your local software vendor.

 Step1: Setting up FreePPP

  1. Once installed you should have a new icon on your menubar. Click it and select Open FreePPP Setup.
  2. Once the new box is open, click on the triangle in the lower left hand corner which will show you the advanced setup menu.


  3. Under the General tab you may or may not want to mark the box next to Allow applications to open'. If this is selected, then you just open your internet program (i.e. browser, email) and it will automatically start dialing for you. Click the Accounts tab next.
  4. Make sure that Untitled is highlighted then click Edit.
  5. Type in ISOT for the Server name. Type in the dialup number for your area:

    In Belton / Temple Area:

    ISDN (128k) 298-0418
    56k / v.34 / v.90 - 298-0418
    VPN / Multilink - 298-0418
    In Killeen / Surrounding Area:
    ISDN (115k) 634-9777
    56k / v.90 / v.34 - 634-2922
    VPN / Multilink (MPPP) 628-1238
  6. Type in your username and password all in lower case letters.
  7. Click on the Connection tab. Set your Port Speed to 57600 and select CTS & RTS(DTR) for the Flow Control. click OK.
  8. You should be back at the FreePPP Setup menu. Click on the General tab again and click the Modem Setup button at the bottom. Select Printer-Modem Port on the Connect to box. Select Tone. Make sure that Modem speaker on while connecting and Hangup on disconnect is selected. Select AutoDetect init string. Click OK.

  9. Your dialer is now set. Now you need to configure TCP/IP to finish your setup (Section 2 and 3).

 

 Section II: Configuring MacOS Dialup / Mac TCP Setup

     Before we begin, determine whether your Macintosh is using MacTCP or Open Transport
You can do this by looking in your Control Panels folder (located in the System Folder).  Goto Section 3 if your system supports open transport. 
  1. Open the "Control Panels" folder located in your system folder

  2. Double-click "MacTCP" in the control panel window. This will open up a box that looks like:
  3. Select/Highlight the PPP icon
  4. Click on "More..."
  5. Set up MacTCP for server addressing by selecting Server under "Obtain Address"
    NOTE: Do not select dynamic or manual (static) addressing
  6. Under Domain Name Server Information, under Domain, enter isot.com
  7. For IP address enter the correct Primary Nameserver for your location: 

    In Fort Hood / Killeen Area

    Primary DNS: 63.161.224.3
    Secondary DNS: 63.161.224.4
  8. Select the first button under Default next to the IP Address
  9. In the box under Domain, type a dot (period) in the name column, and the Secondary Nameserver of your area listed above in the second column
  10. Your completed MacTCP configuration screen should look like the following screenshot:

  11. You do not need to enter a gateway.
  12. Click on the "OK" button to save your changes.

 Section III: Open Transport Setup

  1. Open the "Control Panels" folder located in your system folder
  2. Double-click "TCP/IP" in the control panel window
  3. In the "Connect Via" menu, select MacPPP
  4. In the "Configure" menu, select Using PPP Server
  5. For the Name Server Address, use the appropriate Primary Namerserver for your location:

    In Fort Hood / Killeen Area

    Primary DNS: 63.161.224.3
    Secondary DNS: 63.161.224.4
  6. For the domain name use isot.com
  7. Close the box and save your changes
